Elements such as understanding, safety and welcoming are not only essential parts of a properly functioning society, but are also integral to good design. With these in mind, this project aims to create a safe space for the heart of Istanbul, the Taksim Square, which creates the environment for progress towards a utopic society. While the upper level provides space for LGBTQIA+ organizations, the lower level provides space for a community center for subjects like societal and sexual counseling and a platform for people to engage in open conversation to learn and understand each other better. Adjacent is an underground museum for art and history about both the adversities this society has faced, and Taksim Square, which has often been the ground where change, good or bad, has taken place.
